Why Do You Need MSM?
We all want good health! And that means — in part — supplying our bodies with essential nutrients (and not forgetting the importance of adequate rest and exercise).
SULPHUR is essential to our health. It is one of the main minerals found in the human body. MSM (Methyl-Sulfonyl-Methane) is a dietary source of organic sulphur.
We wouldn’t be too surprised to find that water is the most abundant substance in the body (then come carbon and oxygen and lots of the others). Most people probably wouldn’t realise, however, that SULPHUR is the eighth most abundant substance in the body.
Our bodies need adequate amounts of sulphur to enjoy optimum health.
Sulphur is found in every cell in the body. The greatest concentrations occur in the hair, skin, nails and, especially importantly, in the joints. Sulphur is necessary in the formation of collagen which, in turn, is the main “ingredient” of cartilage and connective tissue.
Sulphur is found in over 150 compounds in the body, and plays a vital role in tissue health, and enzyme and hormone formation.
In view of sulphur’s key role in keeping keep skin, hair and nails healthy, it has been referred to as “Nature's Beauty Mineral.” Some users report that regular use of MSM results in stronger-growing nails and hair.
The body has to continually create healthy new cells. If sulphur is depleted in the body, then cell renewal is affected, and health can be compromised.
Much of our sulphur requirement can be provided by a good quality diet. Sulphur is found in fresh fruit, fresh vegetables (such as cabbage and kale, garlic, onions), and in eggs, (raw) meat and fish. Depending on the soil conditions in which the fruit and vegetables were grown, there may be higher or lower concentrations of sulphur.
If your diet consists of large quantities of fresh fruit and vegetables, you may already be obtaining sufficient MSM and sulphur. Many people choose to supplement their dietary intake of sulphur by taking MSM on a daily basis. A little extra MSM each day gives our bodies that extra support they need to ensure good nutrition and good health.
MSM is water soluble, so any excess in our bodies is washed away — and, in any event, MSM is less toxic than water! So there are no problems in topping up the MSM that we MIGHT be getting in our daily diet!
Daily Intake: for general “maintenance,” most experts recommend between 2 grams and 10 grams of MSM per day. The precise upper amount is not critical, as MSM is non-toxic, and water soluble.
