What is CLA?
Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) is a naturally occurring free fatty acid found mainly in dairy products and meat.
Why do you need it?
CLA plays an important role in your body, helping your metabolism of fat, reducing the amount of fat stored, balancing blood sugar levels and cholesterol, increasing nutrient supply to muscle tissue, and possibly reducing the chance of cancers.
The human body does not produce CLA, and requires it from external sources. The primary sources are from dairy and meat products. However, the amount of CLA gained from eating is fairly small, and many studies have suggested that people gain significant benefits from taking additional supplements.
What are all the benefits?
Scientific studies have shown CLA to:
1) Decrease the amount of fat stored after eating
2) Increase the rate that fat is broken down
3) Increase the amount of glucose that is able to enter muscle cells, thus reducing the amount converted into fat
4) Help control blood sugar levels
5) Possibly reduce instances of cancers
6) Reduce the severity of some allergies such as asthma
7) Increase the lean muscle mass, increasing overall body metabolism
How much should I take?
The recommended amount to be taken per day is generally 2 - 3 grams. Several scientific studies have been conducted on double-blind, placebo-controlled groups of men and women. At that dosage over 3 months a significant loss of body fat has been observed.
